Wearing of Staff Officer Insignia on ODUs

Q: Are Auxiliarists permitted to wear the staff officer embroidered insignia with ODU, when engaged in operations on Coast Guard fixed and floating facilities?

A: When Auxiliarists augment Coast Guard Assets, Auxiliarists normally should wear the member insignia.  However, the CO or OINC has the final word on which uniforms and insignia an Auxiliarist can wear.

Auxiliarists who frequently encounter situations in which it is more appropriate to wear the Auxiliary membership insignia rather than elected/appointed office insignia are authorized to use Velcro to fasten sew-on insignia to the collar as an option to sewing them directly onto the collar.

See the Auxiliary Manual, Ch. 10, Sec. F.4. Embroidery and Sew-on Options for more on this topic.

Note that Past Officer Devices are NOT worn on ODUs.
